The Quiz Club

The Quiz Club of Pope’s college arranges quiz competition across the university and state level every year in February with questions covering a wide range of subjects and difficulty levels. The club also trains our students and motivates them improve their skills in quiz and to represent in various college and university level competitions held elsewhere in the state.

Quiz Report - 2016 - 2017

Our college bears the name of the scholar who delighted in calling himself a "Student of Tamil" Dr. G.U. Pope. Excellence was his goal and he started the college as a tool to bring an upliftment to the society . With a vision to encourage and empower the student to excel in general knowledge, this state level quiz program was started 25 years back. Quiz is a mental support, helps to maintain a healthy mind. General knowledge is the key to complete in the race to hunt for a better job. The Pope's quiz club is functioning successfully for the past 24 years in succession. It is responsible for conducting interdepartmental and intercollegiate quiz programmes of our college.

This academic year(2016-2017) the quiz club functioned under the co-ordinators Mr. R. Sellaraj Manuneethi and Mrs. G. Jeeva Rani Thangam. During this period our students have participated in various quiz competition.

The Interdepartmental Preliminary Pope's Quiz competition was held on 14^th February 2017. Mr. Michael Jeyabalan, Asst.Professor of English was the Quiz Master. Among the ten departments five teams were selected for interdepartmental final which was held on 24^th February 2017. Mr.A. Velkumar, Asst.Professor of Economics Kamarj College, Thoothukudi was the Quiz Master. Department of Chemistry secured the first position with the rolling trophy. Department of Economics stood second and Department of Physics secured the third place.

The State level intercollegiate Pope's Quiz 2017 was held on 25^th February at our campus and there was an overwhelming response from twenty four colleges in our state.

Our Principal Dr. A. Selvakumar presided over the function. Dr.P. Subramanian, Principal, Aditanar college of Arts and Science, Tiruchendur inagurated the preliminary quiz competition. Prof. R. Sellaraj Manuneethi co-ordinator presented the Pope's Quiz 2016 report.

The Participated teams were divided into five groups for the preliminary round which was held in five seperate halls. The preliminary round for each group was conducted by our quiz masters Dr. H. Johnson Jeyakumar, Mrs. P. Shanithini Grace, Mr. Michael Jeyabalan, Mrs. Caroline Daisy and Mrs. Annie Angel Mercy.

The final Pope's Quiz - 2017 programme was conducted at the open - air auditorium in the afternoon. The following teams were selected for the finals among the teams participated in the preliminary.

Aditanar college of Arts & Science, Tiruchendur. Pope's college, Sawyerpuram. Don Bosco college of Arts & Science, Keelaeral, Govindamal College of Arts & Science, Tiruchendur and Sarah Tucker College, Palayamkottai. Dr. S.V.L. Michael, Vice Principal, St.Xavier's College Palayamkottai was the Quiz master for the finals. Mr. Vinesh Chandy, Director N.C. John & Sons Pvt.Ltd., Thoothukudi was the chief guest for the Valedictory function and distributed the Prizes.

Participants from Aditanar College Tiruchendur got the first place and received the rolling trophy with the cash prize of Rs.10,000/-. Pope's college stood second and got cash prize for Rs.5000/-. Govindamal college of Arts & Science TIruchendur came third with prize money Rs.3000/-. Don Bosco College came to the fourth place and Sarah Tucker College got the fifth position with the cash prize of Rs.2500/- and Rs.1000/- respectively.

Mrs. G. Jeeva Rani Thangam, Co-ordinator Pope's Quiz club proposed the vote of thanks and the functon came to an end with the prayer by Mrs. Sheeba Princess, Assistant Professor of Commerce.
